May D shared an anecdote about when Davido sought refuge at his room in the P-Square house, recalling that the singer was shocked by the state of the place. ‘When Davido was running from his dad, he came to my room in P-Square’s house, and he was like, ‘May D, is this where you stay? I can’t sleep here,’’ May D recalled. ‘If I had a room, it would have been cooler.’
The 40-year-old artist also revealed that, during his time with the label, he didn’t have a bank account. ‘It’s only when someone has money that he opens an account,’ he said. Reflecting on his career, May D reminisced about a time when he was at the forefront of the Nigerian music scene, even ranking higher than Wizkid and Davido. ‘Then it was Wizkid, Davido, and I. I was even bigger,’ he stated. ‘What’s ‘Holla at Your Boy’ compared to ‘Soundtrack?’’
According to May D, parting ways with Square Records marked a turning point in his career.”
