Singer Darkoo has publicly addressed the role of Peter Okoye, also known as Mr. P, in what she describes as attempts to sabotage her new single.
On January 2, 2024, Darkoo released her latest single, Focus On Me (All the Sexy Girls in the Club). The vibrant track, which went viral on TikTok before its official release, features a sample of P-Square’s hit song Gimme Dat from their 2009 album Danger.
The accompanying music video, inspired by the visuals for Gimme Dat, was launched shortly after the single. However, it was swiftly taken down due to copyright violations.
In a post on her X account on January 11, 2025, Darkoo claimed that Mr. P, one half of the iconic P-Square duo, was behind the takedown. She alleged that the 45-year-old artist acted out of spite after Darkoo declined his request to be featured on the track.
Despite her earlier promise to include him in a remix, Darkoo said Peter refused to let the matter go. In a series of posts, Darkoo explained that she had cleared the sample and even agreed to share 50% of the royalties with P-Square as a sign of respect for their legacy.
The British-Nigerian artist also took the opportunity to express gratitude toward Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) and Jude Okoye for their support during the sample clearance process, while highlighting Mr. P’s attempts to derail the effort.
